Taiwanese Yang Ming Marine Transport Corporation has announced the acquisition of three 8,000 TEU methanol dual-fuel-ready containerships from Shoei Kisen Kaisha, Ltd.
These vessels, currently under construction by Japanese Imabari Shipbuilding, are set for delivery between 2028 and 2029.
This strategic move is part of Yang Ming's fleet optimisation plan, which aims to enhance its global service network and commitment to sustainable transportation.
"The new vessels will be equipped with energy-efficient main engines, ensuring immediate energy savings while maintaining flexibility for the future adoption of alternative fuels," notes Yang Ming in its press release.
This acquisition marks the first phase of Yang Ming's plan to acquire thirteen containerships, including six 8,000 TEU-class dual-fuel-ready vessels and up to seven 15,000 TEU-class LNG dual-fuel-fitted vessels.
The 10th largest global container carrier says it continues to enhance fleet competitiveness to address challenges posed by evolving geopolitics and supply chain dynamics.
