Tropical Storm Jude began strengthening in the Mozambique Channel on Sunday, 9 March.
The storm was initially classified as moderate but has since intensified into a Tropical Cyclone, making landfall in Nampula Province, Mozambique.
As of 10 March, Mozambique's National Institute of Meteorology (INAM) issued a red tropical cyclone alert, the highest level on a three-tier scale.
The alert warns of rainfall exceeding 20 cm and wind gusts up to 150 kph.
In addition, Malawi's Department of Climate Change and Meteorological Services has issued a red cyclone warning across central and southern regions.
The adverse weather conditions are likely to cause significant disruptions to business, transport, and utilities.
Bridges and roadways may become impassable and disrupted operations at ports are also possible, impacting vessel traffic and container transport.
