Terminal closures planned for Sydney and Brisbane on 7 November

Hutchison and Patrick terminals will be closed while labour action continues at DP World

Kuehne+Nagel has received notification of the following terminal closures in Sydney and Brisbane on Tuesday, 7 November 2023:

  • Patrick Terminal – Brisbane
  • Hutchison Terminal – Brisbane
  • Hutchison Terminal – Sydney

The announced closures are for a staff event and are unrelated to the ongoing industrial action at DP World terminals across Australia.

Kuehne+Nagel expects these closures may impact berthing windows for vessels. Additionally, customers may experience some delays in the retrieval and delivery of containers.

While the impact is not yet expected to be great, these closures coincide with 8-hour stoppages planned by members of the Maritime Union of Australia (MUA) at DP World terminals in Brisbane and Sydney.

Union members began striking in early October, which has resulted in delays in vessel schedules and change of terminals for some voyages.

Earlier this week, the MUA announced the further extension of its strikes to 13 November after no agreement was reached between DP World and the MUA.

Across the waters, the Port of Auckland has seen some knock-on effects of delays in Australia.

"Blank sailings and vessels off window are impacts from the industrial action from some of the Australian terminals and continuing to influence scheduled arrival times," it said in its latest operational update.
