On 4 June, an unplanned systems outage at the CNS and DP World terminals at London Gateway and Southampton significantly disrupted operations.
The outage, which lasted several hours, prevented visibility of container arrivals and departures.
Additionally, suppliers were unable to book VBS slots or obtain container releases.
While the system was restored the same day, Kuehne+Nagel continues to report a high number of rail failures at London Gateway.
Following the system reset, all trains experienced missed connections. The port is working to stabilise operations, but further disruptions are expected in the short term.
At iPort Doncaster, terminal congestion is causing extended delays. The site, now primarily used by MSC for rail services from Felixstowe, is currently gridlocked with both loaded and empty containers. Truck waiting times have increased to 4–5 hours.
Although construction to expand yard capacity is nearing completion, and additional labour and lifting equipment have been deployed, Kuehne+Nagel anticipates that disruptions will persist for several weeks.
To mitigate the impact, cargo is being diverted to alternative rail terminals where possible.
Kuehne+Nagel monitors the situation closely. For the latest update, please reach out to your local Kuehne+Nagel representative.
