Several merchant vessels were reportedly targeted in separate incidents in the Strait of Hormuz on 13 October, including three container ships identified by Vanguard Tech as GFS Pride, GFS Giselle and Al Saadiyat. UKMTO reported four separate attacks involving three container vessels and one tanker but did not identify the ships in its warning notices.
According to the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), the Singapore-flagged GFS Pride sank after a projectile strike caused damage and a fire on board. All 21 crew members were safely evacuated.
Separately, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed that a container ship had struck a mine south of the Strait of Hormuz and subsequently sank. However, the available reporting does not establish that the Iranian claim refers to GFS Pride.
GFS Giselle was reportedly struck while transiting inbound through the Strait. Vanguard Tech described the damage as minor, while MPA confirmed that the vessel sustained hull damage and reached a safe anchorage. All 22 crew members were reported safe.
The third container vessel, Al Saadiyat, was reportedly attacked during an outbound transit. According to the information currently available, no significant damage or casualties have been reported.
A tanker, Alfonso, was also reportedly targeted in a separate incident, although its current status remains unclear.
Details surrounding the incidents remain limited and the situation is still developing. Vessel identifications and reports on the nature and cause of the attacks should therefore be treated with caution until further information and independent confirmation become available.
