Red Sea Crisis enters a new phase

Direct confrontation between Israel and the Houthis marks a new level of escalation

Over the weekend, tensions between Israel and the Houthis escalated significantly.

Both sides engaged in long-range attacks. A Houthi drone targeted Tel Aviv in Israel, prompting Israel to conduct a major operation on Saturday. During this operation, large parts of the port of Hodeidah in Yemen were destroyed by Israeli airstrikes.

These airstrikes targeted a power plant and a fuel depot, with unconfirmed reports suggesting damage to four of the port’s main cranes.

The following day, the Houthis unsuccessfully attempted an attack on the Israeli port of Eilat.

Notably, these Israeli airstrikes mark the first direct attack on the Houthis since the beginning of the war in Gaza.

The situation underscores growing concerns about violence escalation in the Middle East, and the Houthis have announced their intention to continue attacking Israel, demonstrating their ability to target vessels heading to the Mediterranean.
