Missile debris strikes Hapag-Lloyd vessel near Jebel Ali

Container vessel, Source Blessing, was struck by debris in waters near Jebel Ali on Thursday morning, reports ShippingWatch.

The ship is chartered by Maersk from Hapag-Lloyd and operates on the Intra-Middle East OGS service.

The 3,237 TEU vessel experienced a fire on board following the impact with falling debris from a missile, but all crew members remained safe with no injuries reported.

Additional information from UKMTO indicated that the Source Blessing was among the vessels attacked in the region.

On that occasion, it was struck closer to the Strait of Hormuz near the United Arab Emirates.

At the time of the incident, the ship’s tracking system displayed “China Owner”, a designation some vessels have used during the conflict to attempt to avoid targeting.

Across the various statements, all parties confirmed that crew safety had been maintained and that fires resulting from the impact had been extinguished.

The extent of structural damage remains subject to ongoing evaluation by the vessel’s master.
