On Saturday, India announced a ban on the import of goods originating from or transiting through Pakistan and a prohibition on Pakistani-flagged ships entering Indian ports.
These include Pakistani goods entering India via third countries.
This move comes in response to escalating tensions between the two countries following a deadly attack in the Kashmir region.
The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) in India issued a notification stating that the ban would take effect immediately.
This directive also includes a reciprocal measure where Indian-flagged ships are barred from docking at Pakistani ports. Pakistan responded with equal measures against Indian ships.
According to the Times of India, trade between India and Pakistan has been minimal historically, accounting for only about 0.06% of India's total trade volume.
However, the recent measures represent a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict.
Local news further reports that the Indian government has suspended mail exchanges, closed Indian airspace to Pakistan-registered aircraft, and closed the Atari-Wagah land border.
