Over 11,000 people displaced as severe weather leads to requests for extended port deadlines and the opening of additional relief centres in affected states

Flooding in Malaysia causes road closures and disrupts transport

Thousands of families were displaced due to severe flooding across seven Malaysian states: Kedah, Kelantan, Penang, Perak, Perlis, Terengganu, and Selangor.

The floods have resulted in some road closures, likely impacting container traffic to and from Port Klang. As a result, there have been requests to extend the timeline for laden containers to be turned into the port.

According to local news, the bad weather has affected more than 11,000 people from 3,839 families across the states.

In addition to the flooding, a landslide occurred in Wang Kelian, Perlis. Authorities continue to monitor the situation as rainfall persists in several regions.

Floods are a recurring issue on Malaysia’s eastern coast during the monsoon season, which typically runs from October to March.
