Fire breaks on board containership MSC Rita

Seaexplorer 8 June data shows the 8,043 TEU vessel anchored outside Jebel Ali port

A fire broke on board the container vessel MSC Rita on 6 June while navigating UAE waters. According to a report by Trade Winds, the 8,034-TEU vessel “suffered the blaze at an anchorage in the port of Khalifa in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday.”


A tweet by the UAE’s national rescue centre (NSRC) reveals that at least one person was injured as a result of the fire. The video released by the centre shows tugboats spraying water at the vessel’s stern.


According to seaexplorer data, MSC Rita was sailing from Jebel Ali to Abu Dhabi Port as part of the India-East Mediterranean service, ASMED 0044.
