Electrical and communication workers commence a 7-day strike at DP World's Brisbane terminal

The strikes are expected to cause additional delays at the terminal, which has been slowly recovering from a previous extended action

Electrical and communication workers of DP World terminals at Brisbane Port started a week-long strike today, 20 February, at 15:30 ACST. The industrial action is planned to continue until next week, Tuesday, 27 February, at 23:55 ACST.

According to an advisory circulated by Australia's Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA), DP World's terminal experienced disruptions to some of its modules and equipment as a result of the strike.

Nevertheless, the FTA highlighted that members of the Electrical Trades Union (ETU) will strike at Brisbane Port, DP World terminal only.

With the new action, container handling at the port is likely to experience additional delays. Brisbane was one of the ports impacted by the months-long strikes against DP World, which started in October last year.

A resolution to the previous dispute between the operator and the workers was reached earlier this month.

Electrical and communication workers are an essential part of a port's infrastructure. This is definitely the case at Brisbane Port, home to DP World's first semi-automated terminal.
