Current situation in Venezuelan container ports

Key developments for container handling ports in Venezuela as reported by Lloyd’s List

Current situation in Venezuelan container ports

Most ports in Venezuela that handle containers remain operational following the recent US military intervention. According to Lloyd’s List, although there have been some delays, the commercial public ports handling containerized cargo have not experienced major disruptions.

There have been no new instructions or navigational restrictions put in place by Venezuelan maritime or port authorities. Security levels remain at the lowest level under the International Ship and Port Facility Security Code.

Puerto Cabello is operating normally. Container ships are currently working at the port without significant operational difficulties. Additional vessels are awaiting their scheduled berthing at anchorage, and no unusual delays or restrictions have been reported.

La Guaira, which was a target during the US military action, is currently subject to restricted access. However, commercial port operations, including for containers, are continuing without significant delays at this time.

Overall, the status of commercial public ports handling containerised cargo in Venezuela remains largely unchanged. While the situation is fluid and evolving, with general advisories to exercise caution, no major operational impediments to container traffic have been reported at the main ports of Puerto Cabello and La Guaira.

Shipowners and operators are advised to proceed with caution and seek specific guidance if planning to trade to Venezuelan ports. Although war risk insurance premiums have not yet changed, there is an expectation that they may increase soon.
