The Argentinian Ministry of Interior issued a press release yesterday to inform the public about the closure of the Chile-Argentina Los Libertadores border crossing.
The closure is part of the country's plans to repair the 'Christ the Redeemer' tunnel, constructed to commemorate the peaceful resolution of the border dispute between the two countries.
The ministry highlighted that the closure will begin on 1 October at noon and continue until 14 October. The press release states that this decision was adopted at the request of the National Highway Directorate "due to repair tasks that will be carried out to the international tunnel on the Argentinian side."
"We ask users of private vehicles and heavy transport to schedule their trips taking this schedule into account," advises the ministry.
Earlier this month, the Los Libertadores border crossing was closed due to severe weather conditions, causing disruptions to cross-border transport and local traffic.
The crossing allows the passage of all types of vehicles between Argentina and Chile through the Andes mountain range and serves as a key transport route for multiple types of goods.
