48-hour strike starts at Port of Montevideo, Uruguay

Uruguay's largest port had faced an earlier strike on 9 August in demand for reinstatement of a dismissed worker

Port workers affiliated with the Single Union of Port Workers of Branches and Related Industries (Sindicato Unico Portuario de Ramas y Afines, SUPRA) have commenced a new strike at Montevideo Port in Uruguay.


The strike started today, 22 August, and is planned for 48 hours.


This new labour action is an extension of a 24-hour strike on 9 August to demand the reinstatement of the dismissed worker. 


The strike is expected to impact the operations of the Port of Montevideo significantly.
