25 August 2025 (Lloyd's List) - ISRAELI carrier Zim has rerouted vessels scheduled to call in Türkiye amid a ban on Israel-affiliated tonnage enacted by Ankara last week with no formal notice but with immediate effect.

In a regulatory filing on Monday, Zim said it received notice from Turkish Port Authorities on Friday through its local agent that vessels “either owned, managed or operated by an entity related to Israel will not be permitted to berth in Turkish ports” as the result of a “new regulation adopted in Türkiye”.

“Separately, based on the new regulation, among others, vessels that are carrying military cargo destined to Israel will not be permitted to berth in Turkish ports; in addition, Turkish-flagged vessels will be prohibited from berthing in Israeli ports.”

As Lloyd’s List reported on Friday, the ban was understood to have been verbally communicated rather than formally issued by Ankara, and a Turkish Ministry of Transport spokesperson said there was no official statement on any restriction regarding Israeli-linked ships.

According to Zim’s website, it has 10 services with port calls in Türkiye.

The company stated in its filing that it has re-routed “certain company-operated vessels” that were scheduled to call in Türkiye.

The Israeli carrier warned that the new regulation is expected to “negatively impact” its financial and operations results and that it was “developing a mitigation plan” to reduce its potential adverse effects.

However, it reaffirmed its full-year 2025 guidance delivered in its quarterly earnings call last week.
