The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has announced plans for a nationwide strike and protests starting from 00:01 on 21 August, reports Crisis24.

This mobilisation is in response to the potential arrest of NLC leader Joe Ajaero, who has been summoned for a police interview over corruption allegations.

The strike is expected to disrupt various sectors, including transportation, utilities, government services, business operations, and healthcare.

Protests will likely occur along main roads, near government buildings, and at transport hubs such as ports.

Labour unions in Nigeria suspended the nationwide strike that started on Monday to take part in talks with the government.

As part of the strike this week, two of the country's largest unions shut down the national grid and disrupted flights and port operations across the country.

According to local media, the strike was triggered by inflation resulting from reforms, which exacerbated the cost-of-living crisis.

Members of two major labour unions in Nigeria started a nationwide indefinite strike today, 3 June.

After the authorities failed to fulfil their demands, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) called on their members to join the strike from multiple sectors, including maritime, aviation and railway.

The unions had given the federal government until 31 May to respond to their concerns, mainly issues with the minimum wage and the non-reversal of the electricity tariff.

APM Terminals, operators of Onne and Apapa ports, revealed that all terminal operations will be suspended until the strike is over.

Port operations at the ports of Lagos and Tincan will be impacted during this period.
