Union announces 20-hour rail strike in Germany

The rail strikes start today at 10:00 pm and end at 6:00 pm tomorrow

German union GDL representing rail drivers announced a 20-hour rail strike across Germany starting at 10:00 pm today, 15 November.

According to local news agency Deutsche Welle, the strike will continue until 6 pm on Thursday, 16 November.

Wage negotiations between labour unions and the Deutsche Bahn have been ongoing for several months with no sign of an agreement.

The GDL demands salary increases for its members as well as a one-time inflation relief payment in the amount of EUR 3000.

In addition to passenger trains, cargo transportation by rail is likely to be affected during this period, reveals a Kuehne+Nagel advisory (German).
