Operations at the port of Southampton have experienced repeated disruptions over the past two weeks due to adverse weather conditions and other disruptive incidents.
DP World confirmed that shipside operations at the terminal were halted for about two hours on Saturday, 13 December, because of dense fog.
The port situation to date remains under significant pressure following a 50-hour pilot closure between 5 and 7 December and an additional 12-hour stoppage on 9 December.
Complicating matters further, 15 containers fell overboard from a feeder ship on 6 December. Port authorities had imposed draft and tide restrictions for all traffic until recovery was completed.
The obstruction has intensified berth congestion, prompting the terminal to prioritise berthing where possible.
According to the weather forecast, the region may still experience wind and rain for the next few days.
