Snowstorm shuts down New York and New Jersey port terminals

Heavy snow is expected to accumulate to up to 20 centimetres in areas of northeast New Jersey and southeast New York

The Port of New York and New Jersey announced the closure of major terminals and depots due to bad weather.


In a tweet posted recently, the port said, "With the exception of the ECW CES, all PONYNJ Major Terminal Operators and Depots will be closed tomorrow, 2/13."


The US National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for multiple cities on the East Coast. Heavy snow is expected in portions of northeast New Jersey and southeast New York until 6:00 pm EST.

According to the Economic Times, the snowstorm is anticipated to disrupt traffic along the Interstate 95 highway, which is a key transport route that passes through 15 states on the East Coast.


With forecasts of up to 8 inches (app. 20 centimetres), disruptions to transport and port operations are likely to remain for a few days.
