Rail workers of two of Canada's biggest railroads have called on members to vote in favour or against a labour action that could impact operations as early as 22 May.
According to the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference (TCRC), the vote started on 8 April and is planned to continue until 1 May.
Earlier in March, the TCRC, representing engineers and conductors of Canadian National (CN) and Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) railways, mentioned that they have made very little progress on negotiations with employers.
Reporting about talks with the CPKC, the union said it "has rejected the majority of the union's demands for improved pay and working conditions."
It also described the proposal presented by the CN as "unrealistic."
Should most members vote in favour of a strike, the country could witness a walkout or lockout on CN and CPKC lines in Canada on 22 May.
