Reuters reported yesterday that the government's offer of mediation to resolve the overtime strike at the Port of Montreal has been rejected, which means that the overtime ban will continue at this stage.
In a post published on X, Labour Minister Steven MacKinnon said, "They must find a path forward towards a negotiated settlement as quickly as possible."
Last week, The minister offered to resolve the disagreement between the Maritime Employers Association (MEA) and the Montreal Longshoremen's Union regarding a new collective bargaining agreement.
It is unclear which party rejected the offer; however, the MEA issued an statement acknowledging the decision.
