German railway and transport union (EVG) called on its members to strike tomorrow, Friday, 21 April, from 3 a.m. to 11 a.m. all across Germany. A report by the German shipping newspaper DVZ mentioned that the reason behind this labour action is the failure to reach an agreement with the Deutsche Bahn. Both passenger and cargo transport will be affected, according to DVZ.
A press release by EVG cited two EVG collective bargaining boards as saying, "We need to step up the pressure on employers who think they can ignore their workers' demands and instead want to engage in squire-style collective bargaining. That is unacceptable.” On the other hand, the DB described the labour action as "completely useless and unnecessary."
A customer advisory issued by METRANS, an intermodal transport company operating in Europe, reported, "We do not plan to cancel any of our services, but we do expect them to be delayed due to restrictions caused by the shutdown of other companies’ trains."
