Potential protests planned at the Port of Melbourne on Monday, 15 April, could spread to other Australian ports, warns Container Transport Alliance Australia (CTAA).
The A15 Economic Blockade organisers intend to "blockade and disrupt major economic logistical hubs" in 30 cities across the globe, including Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.
In response, the Port of Melbourne is collaborating with Victoria Police to increase additional security resources and security patrols, reports Kuehne+Nagel.
Zim vessel calls spark protests
In recent months, Zim vessels were targeted in protests in Melbourne, causing significant disruptions to container movements in and out of the port.
On 22 March, protests escalated and resulted in violent clashes, causing significant landside disruptions at the Victoria International Container Terminal, as reported by the CTAA.
The likelihood and extent of protests in other cities on 15 April remains unclear.
Kuehne+Nagel will monitor the situation and provide further updates as they become available.
