Starting today, 7 November, the loading and unloading of Tesla cars at Sweden’s ports is banned.
Late last month, the Swedish Transport Workers Union (Svenska Transportarbetareförbundet) announced that it would block the handling of Tesla’s cars after it refused to sign a collective agreement with IF Metall, the union representing workers in the auto industry.
In its statement, the transport union said it would apply “sympathy measures in the form of a blockade against the unloading and loading of Tesla cars in all of Sweden's ports.”
The first blockade – which started today - will apply to four terminals, namely Copenhagen Malmö Port AB, Södertälje Hamn AB, Logent Ports & Terminal AB Gothenburg and Trelleborg Hamn AB.
If the measures do not lead to an agreement, the union will extend the ban to include all Swedish ports starting 17 November.
“We have received signals that Tesla cars are being rescheduled for other Swedish ports, and we are now closing that possibility completely,” says the statement.
In the meantime, the union assured that the measures apply to Tesla’s cars only and that the loading and unloading of other goods will be handled as usual.
