Update: Fire at the Port of Iskenderun extinguished
Operations at the port's container terminal remain suspended
Efforts succeeded in putting off the fire at the Port of Iskenderun, Turkey, on Tuesday. The fire broke out after a number of containers collapsed at the port due to the massive earthquake that hit the country on Monday, 6 February.
Operations at the port’s container terminal are still suspended due to severe structural damages caused by the earthquake. The fire damaged a large number of containers, and multiple container carriers announced skipping the port as a result.
Turkey’s maritime authority noted that vessels “should head to other facilities” as the port is closed until further notice, reported Container Management.
Land transport operations are also suspended around the port.
Mersin Port is operating normally, according to Kuehne+Nagel sources. However, operational delays could occur due to damages in the customs office.
