Taiwan's Central Weather Administration (CWA) warned of tropical storm Podul, which might start impacting the country on Tuesday.
Podul is expected to make landfall on Wednesday, bringing extremely heavy rain and strong winds in Yilan County, Hualien County, Taitung County, and the mountainous regions of southern Taiwan.
In response, the Maritime and Port Bureau (MPB) has announced the cancellation of all ferry services between Taitung County and Green Island from midday Tuesday to Wednesday. Similar measures are likely to be taken in container ports.
Tropical Cyclone Podul is expected to continue its trajectory towards eastern Guangdong and southern Fujian in China.
As it approaches China, the storm is anticipated to bring heavy showers and gusty thunderstorms to Guangdong, potentially causing flooding in some areas.
The Global Disaster Alert and Coordination System (GDACS) has indicated that the storm could have a medium humanitarian impact based on its maximum sustained wind speed, exposed population, and vulnerability.
