12 September 2023 (Lloyd's List) - SHANGHAI Port will be able to provide green methanol bunkering services to international vessels from 2024, according to Shanghai International Port vice president, Zhang Xin.
Speaking at a press conference, Zhang said that in addition to green methanol, SIPG will develop bunkering services for a number of new energy-powered vessels.
The announcement was made in anticipation of the upcoming North Bunk Forum, an annual shipping event scheduled to take place in Shanghai from September 22 to 24.
In March this year, SIPG and Maersk signed an MOU to explore green methanol fuel vessel-to-vessel bunkering operations for the Danish shipping company’s green methanol fleet, scheduled to be delivered in 2024.
This was followed by SIPG signing an MOU in April with Cosco and France’s CMA CGM to procure, supply, and deliver green marine methanol fuel for the future methanol dual-fuel fleets of CMA CGM and Cosco Shipping at major ports in China, including the port of Shanghai.
During the press conference, Zhang also highlighted how SIPG has been providing liquefied natural gas bunkering services to international vessels since 2022, completing a total of 53 bunkering operations and supplying a cumulative volume of 294,000 cu m of LNG so far.
