Port operational updates from around the world (24 April - 2 May)

Nigeria

A piracy policy is enforced at Apapa and Lagos, prohibiting the arrival or departure of vessels after sunset. This is expected to impact the berthing line-up at the port. Two vessels are currently waiting at anchor in Lagos.

South Africa

Cape Town: Vessel waiting time has increased significantly in Cape Town. Strong winds and equipment issues are causing operational slowdowns and disruption. Three vessels are currently waiting for a berth.

Durban: Equipment challenges and other productivity issues have impacted vessel waiting time in Durban. Seven ships are currently at anchor.

Port Elizabeth: Vessel waiting times in Port Elizabeth increased to 5.5 days. Three vessels are currently waiting for a berth.

Tanzania

Dar es Salaam: The 7-day average vessel waiting time is around 12 days due to vessel bunching and congestion.

Saudi Arabia

Dammam: The berthing congestion has eased in Dammam, but the port is heavily congested due to a large percentage of Jeddah cargo being diverted to Dammam. Expect a 3 - 4 weeks delay on local carriage due to lack of available transport.

UAE

Jebel Ali: Terminals are recovering from disruptions from heavy rainfall two weeks ago. While congestion has reduced to 80-85%, recovery could take some time.

Tanjung Pelepas: Due to congestion, vessel waiting time has increased to 2 days this week. According to carriers, port efficiency will take time to stabilise.

Port Klang: Port operations have improved in Port Klang, resulting in a vessel waiting time of around 1 day. Carriers report improved efficiency at the port; however, full recovery will take some time.
