Panama Canal increases the number of slots in Panamax Locks

Three slots will be offered to supers and one slot to regular vessels, according to the Canal's authority

The Panama Canal announced increasing the number of slots allocated for ships passing the Panamax Locks.

Starting on the transit date of 18 March, two extra slots will be made available through auction. Additionally, one more slot for transits will be scheduled from 25 March onward.

As a result, the total number of transits will increase from 24 to 27.

According to the authority's statement, the new measures allow most ships that wish to transit the Canal to have a better chance of obtaining a slot.

Furthermore, the ACP highlighted that it may increase the number of slots offered through auctions, depending on the water levels of Gatun Lake.
