ONE CEO confident about the future of THE Alliance

Speaking at the TPM conference, CEO Nixon says THE Alliance would continue this year as a four-carrier operation

The changes in the current alliance frameworks, which involve Hapag-Lloyd departing from THE Alliance to work with Maersk in the Gemini Cooperation, will result in adjustments for container carrier Ocean Network Express (ONE), the primary capacity provider within the vessel-sharing agreement.

But contrary to unfavourable remarks from analysts, Jeremy Nixon, the company's CEO, believes the changes in THE Alliance partners will not be dramatic.

“It is very much business as usual,” said Nixon at the S&P Global TPM conference in Long Beach.

According to Lloyd’s List, Nixon revealed that THE Alliance “would continue throughout this year as a four-carrier operation.” Then, as for 2025, the alliance will have a new network, which will be disclosed next month.

“We will bring back the PN3 service into the Pacific north-west and bring back the EC4 into the US east coast, and we’ll make sure that for the whole of 2024, we have a good product and good schedule reliability as THE Alliance,” he added.

Meanwhile, they “will continue to deliver end-to-end services into the Pacific north-west and southwest, US east coast and north and south Atlantic,” Nixon said.

In addition, the Singapore-based carrier has a positive future outlook.

Nixon believes the US economy has proved to be resilient and robust so far, and inventory levels are currently falling, reports Lloyd’s List.

“Most of our customers have cleared up their surplus inventory now. Some inventories are even getting a bit stretched now due to the long transit times caused by Red Sea delays.”

However, he is concerned that even though manufacturing and shipping happen around the clock, the main problem arises on the land side. Specifically, the issue lies with terminals and inland logistics, which are not as efficient as they should be.
