Liner MSC recently launched its new container monitoring system for reefer cargo, iReefer.

The largest container carrier in the world announced that this system would allow remote tracking and monitoring solutions for reefer containers, allowing customers to track their temperature-controlled shipments in real-time.

This service will be introduced throughout the carrier's global fleet of ships and containers in the upcoming years. However, customers will have access to all three iReefer packages as of 1 March.

MSC is not the first to roll out such a system in the shipping industry. Among others, carriers Maersk, Hapag-Lloyd, and CMA CGM all offer smart reefer technology to customers.

This system provides several benefits, including real-time monitoring, temperature control, increased efficiency in managing supply chains, and more transparent compliance with regulatory requirements.

Despite launching this system later than its competitors, MSC has the greatest capacity of refrigerated containers among liner operators, transporting over 1 million reefers annually.
