First boxship with goods directly to the US sails from Tien Sa Port, Vietnam

The Wan Hai 362 is the largest container ship to dock at the Tien Sa Port for imports and exports, says local sources

Tien Sa Port in the Vietnamese province of Da Nang achieved a milestone on 5 September, as it received its first containership set to deliver goods from Vietnam directly to key ports in the United States.

In the past, goods loaded at Tien Sa and destined for the US were transferred to another ship during their journey. This time, containership Wan Hai 362 will carry Vietnamese goods directly to the ports of Long Beach and Oakland.

"It is the largest container ship to dock at the Tien Sa Port for imports and exports," says local news agency Da Nang Today.

This new sail would save up to a week as it could deliver the goods in 21 days instead of the usual 25-28 days. In addition, it minimises the risk of damage to goods that could occur during the transfer process to a mother ship.

Wan Hai 362 is a 3,013-TEU vessel built in 2023. The ship is 203.5 meters long and 34.8 meters wide. It carried garments, furniture, children's toys, coils, and even aircraft components. As part of Wan Hai's AA3 service, the ship travelled from Vietnam to China and Taiwan and then to the US.

Established in 1901, Da Nang Port is considered the third-largest port system in Vietnam and a key gateway to the Central Vietnam area. In 2022, the port handled 652,769 TEU, and it continues to expand its capacity as part of several development projects.
