Evergreen and Qatar Terminals make strategic investments in Rotterdam Port

With the new investments, both companies seek to boost their operational presence in Europe

Rotterdam, Europe's largest port, received two strategic investments from major players in the maritime industry. Leading Taiwanese box carrier Evergreen has acquired a stake in the Euromax Terminal, while Qatar's QTerminals Group has invested in Rotterdam's port facilities.

Evergreen invests in Euromax Terminal

Evergreen has bought a 20% stake in Rotterdam’s Euromax terminal for EUR72.5m ($109m), reported Splash247. This is seen as a strategic step to strengthen the company’s presence in Europe.

The terminal, located in the Maasvlakte in Rotterdam, is known for its advanced infrastructure and strategic location, facilitating efficient container handling and distribution across Europe. Evergreen's move is expected to enhance its operational efficiency and further optimise its supply chain management.

The acquisition aligns with Rotterdam's goal of maintaining its position as a leading gateway for container traffic in Europe and strengthens the port's attractiveness to global shipping giants.

Qatar buys majority share in Kramer Holding

At the same time, Qatar's terminal operator QTerminals bought a majority stake in Kramer Holding - a provider of integrated logistics and container services based in the Port of Rotterdam.

“The acquisition of Kramer Group represents an important milestone in the expansion of Terminals,” said QTerminals in a press release.

The agreement signed between the two establishments on 15 August is expected to pave the way for potential partnerships beyond the maritime sector, benefiting both Qatar and the Netherlands.
