British Rail Union announces 3 days of strike action in early November

Rail action coincides with port worker strikes in Liverpool

British Rail Union announces 3 days of strike action in early November
The National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers (RMT) announced strike action against 14 train operating companies to take place in early November after no new offer on pay, job security and working conditions was presented by the rail industry body. In a press statement RMT general secretary, Mick Lynch said, "We remain open to meaningful talks, but we are steadfast in our industrial campaign to see a negotiated settlement for all our members in this dispute." RMT reported that its strike action would coincide with the strike action of RMT members on Network Rail, London Underground and Overground. Members will walk out on 3, 5 and 7 November. In response to the announcement, Tim Shoveller Network Rail’s chief negotiator said in an open letter to the union that a two-year 8% deal, with discounted travel and a new extended job guarantee to January 2025, is on the table. The network expressed its disappointment at the offer not being put to a referendum and urged the union to return to discussions. The rail networks’ two other unions, Transport Salaried Staffs’ Association and drivers’ union Aslef have not yet announced further strike action. The new rail strikes will coincide with those of workers at Liverpool Port from 24 October to 7 November. British supply chains have been disrupted by several walkouts including those at Felixstowe, its largest port. The dispute remains unresolved; however, no further strike action has been announced yet at Felixstowe.
